Penn State Moves Into Top 10 on Coaches Poll, Unchanged on AP

Penn State stayed at No. 11 in the latest AP Poll but moved into the top ten in the coaches poll.

Despite destroying Rutgers, 55-10, in Piscataway Saturday, coach James Franklin’s team found themselves in a familiar position on the AP charts. The coaches were a little more impressed, as the Nittany Lions moved from No. 13 to No. 10.

After Ohio State and Michigan survived scares from Maryland and Illinois, respectively,  Penn State is still the third-highest ranked Big Ten team. Ohio State stayed No. 2 and Michigan remains at 3. Ohio State and Michigan are undefeated and gave Penn State its only blemishes thus far in 2022. Michigan slaughtered Penn State, 41-17, Oct. 15 in Ann Arbor, and Ohio State grinded out a 44-31 win in Happy Valley Oct. 29. Ohio State and Michigan meet in arguably the biggest game of college football’s 2022 regular season this coming Saturday. It’s possible that the Big Ten sends two teams to the College Football Playoff depending on what happens that day.

Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State are the only ranked schools out of 14 in the Big Ten.

Elsewhere in the top 25, Georgia remains at No. 1, and TCU is still No. 4. Georgia beat Kentucky, 16-6, Saturday, and TCU beat Baylor, 29-28, on a last-second 40-yard field goal by Griffin Kell.

Penn State now waits to see where it will be ranking in the fourth College Football Playoff poll of 2022. It’s currently No. 11. The team ends its season next Saturday on Senior Day at Beaver Stadium against Michigan State. The annual battle for the Land-Grant Trophy is scheduled to kickoff at 4:00 on FS1. Michigan State needs a win to clinch bowl eligibility and keep its hope for a winning season alive.
