In Penn State’s dominant 30-0 shutout victory over Maryland, two Penn State players picked up conference accolades for their Performance. Running back Nick Singleton won Big Ten Freshman of the Week, and kicker Jake Pinegar won Big Ten Special Teams of the Week.
Singleton now has three Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, previously winning the honor in back-to-back weeks in September after victories against Ohio and Auburn. Singleton rushed for 122 yards on 11 carries and converted broke-off touchdown runs of 27 and 45 yards, both coming out of the T-formation on a fourth-and-one.
That was Singleton’s first 100-yard performance since the Auburn game and has 801 yards on 123 carries and ten rushing touchdowns so far on the season, which is a Penn State record for a freshman.
Pinegar has seemed to have shaken off early season struggles at Beaver Stadium by making all three field goals in rainy conditions. He connected on field goals of 21, 46, and a career-high tying 50 yards. Pinegar is 11/13 in field goal attempts and 41/43 on extra point attempts this season.
Other Penn State players who won Big Ten weekly honors include Sean Clifford twice won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performances at Purdue and against Minnesota; running back Kaytron Allen who won Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his performance against Central Michigan; Ji’Ayir Brown won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at Auburn; punter Barney Amor won Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Northwestern.
