Penn State is rolling.
Since falling to Ohio State Oct. 29 at Beaver Stadium, coach James Franklin’s team (8-2, 5-2) is 2-0 and has outscored its opponents 75-14.
Granted, neither Indiana or Maryland is at Penn State’s level, but neither is Rutgers.
The Scarlett Knights don’t stack up against Penn State historically or currently. Historically, Rutgers is 2-30 against Penn State, and its last win happened in 1988 when Franklin was 16. The other series win Rutgers has happened eight years before Joe Paterno was born. The current Rutgers team is 4-6 (1-6 in conference) and needs to beat Penn State at home this week and win at Maryland next week to clinch bowl eligibility. Rutgers hasn’t finished .500 or above since 2014, its first year in the Big Ten.
Since Rutgers has played in the conference, Penn State is 8-0 with an average margin of victory of more than 21. Penn State beat Rutgers 28-0 last year despite many players suffering from a campus-wide sickness.
Christian Veilleux relieved Sean Clifford at QB late in the first quarter and threw three touchdowns and no interceptions, completing 15-24 passes for 235 yards.
Penn State is a 19.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. For Penn State fans who aren’t making the trip to Piscataway, here’s how to watch and listen to the game.
