The Penn State men’s soccer team (2-1-1) defeated George Mason (0-3) by the score of 3-1. It’s Penn State’s second win in a row after upsetting No. 18 West Virginia (1-2) on September 2nd by the score of 3-2.

Penn State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the ten minute mark even hit in the game. They got the scoring started after a Peter Mangoine penalty kick goal, his third of the year and 16th of his career.
Five minutes later Mangoine assisted on a Liam Butts goal that gave them the 2-0 lead at the 9:37 mark. That goal by Butts was the 17th of his career.
George Mason got their lone goal with approximately twelve minutes left in the game, but Penn State’s Andrew Privett closed it out with about four minutes left. He was assisted on his goal by Mangoine and Seth Kune.
In the 3-1 victory Penn State outshot George Mason 20-10 with nine of those shots on goal. Goalie Kris Shakes made four saves in the victory.
Penn State will next take on Princeton (0-1-1) this Friday at home at 7:00 p.m. Princeton is coming off a 2-0 loss at home to Vermont (2-1-1). Penn State will start Big Ten play at home against Wisconsin (1-2) on September 16th at 7:00 p.m.
