Daquan Davis, a Class of 2024 four-star basketball prospect out of Washington, DC, announced on Twitter that he will be making an official visit to Penn State on Oct. 1 to witness Penn State’s home game against Northwestern.
Davis is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound point guard that plays his prep basketball at St. Johns High School. Davis is the number two player in the District of Columbia, the No. 15 point guard, and the No. 87 player nationally, according to 247Sports rankings.
Penn State extended an offer to Davis on Sep. 15, the same day that conference rival Maryland extended the offer.
Davis averaged 14.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 28 games for St. Johns last season. He also plays for Team takeover for the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, where he averaged 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Scouts like Davis’ ability to play with acceleration and shift gears effortlessly. He can create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. He has an effective step back and prefers shooting mid-range shots rather than three-point shots. Davis is skilled on the open floor and drives to the basket with explosiveness and he is only getting stronger. He is also an excellent pick-and-roll player.
On defense, Davis is a tenacious defender that plays with a high motor. He is not afraid to take on the best perimeter player on the other team. His quickness and instincts allow him to disrupt passing lanes and plays with good technique and discipline to play against larger defenders without fouling. Overall, what scouts love most about him is his toughness.
Penn State is looking to Davis to be their first commit in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
