Former Penn State RB Caziah Holmes has Enrolled at Florida State

As first reported by Chris Hummer of 247Sports, former Penn State running back Caziah Holmes, who entered the transfer portal Aug. 15, has enrolled at Florida State. Holmes was listening to offers from Florida, Marshall, Old Dominion, UTSA and Western Michigan before landing with Mike Norvell and Florida State.

The 5-foot-11, 217-pounder Holmes was a Class of 2020 four-star recruit out of Cocoa High School in Titusville, Florida. Holmes appeared in all nine games as a freshman and ran for 227 yards on 51 carries to go with two touchdowns and added six receptions for 37 yards.

He got increased playing time due to injuries to Noah Cain and Journey Brown, with the latter turning out to be career-ending. With Cain back from injury, the arrival of Baylor transfer John Lovett and the emergence of his classmate Keyvone Lee, Holmes’s playing time decreased dramatically in 2021. Holmes only appeared in three games and opted to redshirt last year.

Holmes’s decision to transfer also could have been due to the arrival of 2022 blue-chip running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen to Penn State’s already loaded backfield. Holmes was battling nagging injuries during spring practice that further set back his development.

Holmes will join Trey Benson, Lawrence Toafili, and Treshawn Ward in a talented backfield. In Florida State’s 47-7 win over Duquesne last weekend, they all rushed for 100 yards.
