Penn State and Furman are two of the eight teams in the tournament. Penn State and Furman will be the tournament’s first game, with tip-off scheduled for 11:30 on a Thursday morning. Penn State will play either Old Dominion or Virginia Tech in its second game, which will either be scheduled for noon or 2:30 depending on the results.
After that, Penn State will play a team on the bracket’s other side— hosts College of Charleston, Colorado State, Davidson or South Carolina. That that game will be scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20.
Penn State went through a transition season last year, which was Shrewsberry’s first as head coach. The went 14-17 overall and 7-13 in the Big Ten, making a mini-run on the conference tournament before falling to Purdue in the quarterfinals.
This year’s team has it’s two leading scorers, Jalen Pickett (13.3 PPG) and Seth Lundy (11.9 PPG) returning, and also added three transfers— Cam Wynter, Andrew Funk and Mikey Henn— over the offseason, in addition to a five-man recruiting class that signed last fall.
Furman came within split-second away from making it to the NCAA tournament this past March, falling in overtime to Chattanooga on a buzzer-beater in the SoCon Championship Game.
This would be the second time Penn State and Furman have played, with Penn State winning the first meeting, 70-49, at the Bryce Jordan Center in November of 2010.
