Penn State is the fourth largest athletic department in terms of sports offered according to Navy Athletics, who is one spot higher at third. Penn State currently offers 31 varsity sports behind Ohio State (36), Stanford (36) and Navy (35). Rounding out the top ten is California (30), Michigan (29), North Carolina (28), Army (28), Duke (27), Virginia (27) and Air Force (27).

**Penn State football has extended an offer to Walter Matthews (2024), a four-star tight end from Hiram High School in Hiram, Georgia.
The 6-foot-7, 250-pounder also has offers from schools such as Michigan, Michigan State, Pitt and Tennessee.
