2021 three-star dual-threat quarterback Xavier Copening has committed to Penn State as a walk-on for the 2022 season.
Copening was a three-star quarterback prospect At Avon Old Farms High School in Avon, CT. He previously received offers from Connecticut, Boston College, and Syracuse. This past fall Copening was training at Feltrim Academy Prep School in Haines City, Fla. to help improve his stock at the college level.
Copening is 6-foot-1, weighs 180 pounds, runs a 4.5 40-yard dash, and was the 8th best prospect in the state of Connecticut according to MaxPreps. He was the Most Valuable Player of the USA Football Under 17 football game in 2019.
Copening will join 2022 commits Drew Allar and Beau Pribula as well as returning starter senior Sean Clifford. Copening will bring a dual threat element to their quarterback room and may have the potential to get playing time down the road whether it be playing quarterback, or he switches positions.
