Penn State head coach James Franklin is a master recruiter, say what you will about his recent success (or lack thereof) or in-game management, but he’s one of the best in the country at bringing in high-caliber recruits.
And in the current age of college football, sometimes it’s better to be an excellent recruiter than a solid head coach.
One of the incoming recruits that may have helped secure Franklin’s extension is five-star quarterback commit Drew Allar — the top-ranked quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Allar has been a Nittany Lions hard commit since early March, and it’s clear that he’s pleased to see his coach warding off outside interest to stay in Happy Valley.

Allar expressed his support on Twitter, and he took it a step further on Instagram by addressing the rumors of Franklin leaving Penn State for the open positions at USC and LSU this offseason.

Allar is the headlining piece of Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class, which is currently ranked first in the Big Ten and fifth in the nation, and PSU’s 2023 recruiting class is off to a fast start with a No. 4 ranking through the early days of the cycle.
With Penn State’s offense going through periods of woe this season, an inconsistent running game and injuries to starting quarterback Sean Clifford, a recruiting class with the top-ranked quarterback, top-ranked running back and a top-five wide receiver is a welcomed sight. And the future star quarterback is happy to see Franklin renewing his contract.
