Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class is loaded with the top talent in the state of Pennsylvania, and Nittany Lions head coach is already off to a great in-state start with the 2023 class.
2023 three-star tight end Joey Schlaffer from Exeter Township in Reading, Pennsylvania announced his commitment to Penn State on Friday via Twitter. Schlaffer (6-foot-6, 210 pounds) picked the Lions over Arizona State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, UCONN, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The huge junior tight end leads Exeter in receiving this season, racking up 533 yards and four touchdowns on just 28 receptions in seven games. Exeter is 6-3 so far this season, ranked 14th in PIAA’s Class 5-A, according to MaxPreps.
Schlaffer is rated as the 347th-ranked recruit in the nation, coming in as the 22nd-ranked tight end and the 11th-ranked recruit in Pennsylvania. Rivals rates him as the 18th-ranked tight end and the 10th-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania.
Schlaffer is the second recruit from Pennsylvania to commit to the Lions’ 2023 class, joining three-star cornerback Lamont Payne.
