The Pittsburgh Steelers begin their playoff push tonight against the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field. It should come as no surprise that a poll I ran on Twitter showed the vast majority of Penn State fans consider the Steelers their favorite NFL team.
If you click on the poll, you’ll see more than 70 percent picked the Steelers. And the Philadelphia Eagles are a distant second at close to 20 percent.
From a fan on Facebook:
Penn State fans: What NFL team do you root for? Please vote here and comment below. I can only list 4 choices, so comment with others.
I'm trying to find out if PSU fans also are primarily fans of Steelers and Eagles, being in PA, or other teams.— Cory Giger (@CoryGiger) January 9, 2021
People root for teams for a whole bunch of different reasons. Picking your local team is easy, but many fans latch on to teams from other places around the country for a variety of reasons — perhaps something that happened in your childhood, a first football card or early memory that led you to a certain team.
For instance, I have long been a Syracuse basketball fan for one reason — I saw Pearl Washington hit a half-court shot to beat Boston College when I was a kid in 1984, and for some reason I cannot explain, that made be a Syracuse fan.
If you have a good story to tell about how you picked
