Steelers Release former Penn State WR DeAndre Thompkins

The Steelers have released former Penn State wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins, the team announced on Saturday.

Thompkins, 24, was a very late addition to the Steelers’ training camp roster,signing with the team on Aug. 30.

He last played with the DC Defenders in the XFL this spring. He finished the abbreviated spring season with seven catches on 17 targets for 85 yards and one touchdown. In 2019, he was with the Philadelphia Eagles in training camp.

Thompkins struggled during kick return drills during Steelers training camp and was unable to find a special teams role on the squad.
