This past weekend Jarrett Stephens, a Penn State men’s basketball standout from 1996 to 2000 talked to Nittany Sports Now about his journey and his older brother, Dwayne, recently joining the Penn State coaching staff.
Jarrett Stephens, a 6′-7″ forward from Ferndale, Michigan was Penn State’s first-ever consensus first-team All-Big Ten Selection (2000) and completed his career at No. 5 on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,372 points and was eighth with 703 career rebounds.
After his college career, Stephens played professional basketball for nearly a decade in Europe and South America.
When he returned to the United States, Stephens started teaching at his local high school and coached girls’ basketball.

Stephens then returned to Penn State as a consultant from 2017-2018 where he helped Penn State to a 26-13 overall record and a National Invitation Tournament Championship.
Stephens is now a scout for the Denver Nuggets, which he has been since 2022 and in his first season, the Nuggets won the NBA Championship, with Stephens’ former Penn State teammate Calvin Booth serving as the Nuggets’ general manager.
He then went on to talk of his excitement for his older brother recently joining the Penn State staff.
“I’m really excited for him and his new role and just becoming part of the Nittany Lion family,” Stephens said.
