A Penn State receiver has been charged with driving under the influence per court records.
Freshman Ben Whitver, 19, is facing two DUI charges, along with a charge of driving the wrong way.
The incident took place July 11.
The first charge states that Whitver had a Schedule I drug found in his blood, and the second states that a drug metabolite was present.
Whitver has no previous criminal record aside from a minor trafic offense in Centre County this past April, which he pled guilty to.
Whitver committed to Penn State Dec. 27, with the news breaking not long after Penn State beat Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl. He had initially been signed to James Madison, but JMU released him from his letter of intent amid coach Bob Chesney leaving for UCLA.
Whitver holds the Virginia state record for career receiving yards and is third in state history in receptions. He ended his senior season with 961 yards and nine touchdowns on 58 catches.

“To be honest, I’ve always loved Penn State,” Whitver said. “It’s always been a dream school for me. It feels like home and I’m excited.”
He also talked about what Matt Campbell and the new Penn State coaching staff like about him.
”They’ve said they love my game and my skill set,” Whitver said. “They’ve known about me and have watched me for a while going back to when they were at Iowa State.”
Whitver has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
