JJ Wiebusch is going home.
After two strong seasons at Penn State, the former Nittany Lions winger has transferred to Wisconsin, returning to his home state to join a Badgers team coming off a runner-up finish in the Frozen Four where Wisconsin fell to Denver 2-1 in the finals.
For Wiebusch, the move marks both a fresh start and a homecoming as he looks to build on the success he enjoyed in Happy Valley.
A native of Verona, Wisconsin, Wiebusch leaves Penn State after recording 77 points in 69 games. His sophomore campaign was especially productive, as he totaled 36 points and further established himself as one of the Nittany Lions’ most dangerous offensive players.
Early in the 2025 season, Wiebusch appeared ready to take another leap. He scored 11 goals in Penn State’s first 10 games, including an impressive four-goal performance against Clarkson on Oct. 9. At that stage, he looked like a potential breakout star and a centerpiece of the team’s offense.
As the season wore on, Penn State battled injuries, particularly at center, which impacted the team’s offensive flow. Wiebusch’s scoring pace slowed in conference play, but he still remained a key contributor, posting 18 points over his final 27 games while averaging nearly 16 minutes of ice time.
Now at Wisconsin, Wiebusch will aim to make an immediate impact.
