Whether one believes in “bulletin board material” or not, athletes have been known to look for the littlest things as motivators, and Oregon coach Dan Lanning might have given Penn State such a thing.
In an appearance on the Zach Gelb Show, hosted by, believe it or not, Zach Gelb, Lanning had this to say:
“It’s a White Out ‘cause we’re playing in it, right?” Lanning asked rhetorically. “It’s cause Oregon’s there.”
Now, Lanning is smart enough to know that the Penn State White Out would be happening regardless of Oregon’s presence in Penn State’s schedule or in the Big Ten.
But he really isn’t wrong.
WHY LANNING ISN’T WRONG

Dan Lanning leads Oregon to the Big Ten title in their first year in the conference.
Here’s why Lanning really isn’t wrong about this being the White Out Game because of Oregon.
Even with Indiana once again emerging as a Top-10 caliber team, Oregon is clearly the main event of Penn State’s home 2025 schedule. After all, Oregon did win the Big Ten in its first try last season and entered the College Football Playoff as the only unbeaten team in the country (Oregon fans probably don’t want to talk about what happened after that).
Nonetheless, Oregon has another national title contender on the field this season, and given it’s made two national title game appearances in the last 15 years, the program checks out historicity, too.
MORE BULLITEN BOARD MATERIAL

This isn’t the only piece of potential “bulletin board material” Oregon has given Penn State.
A former Oregon defensive back trolled Penn State QB Drew Allar ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Beaver Stadium.
Dontae Manning, who now plays for the Chicago Bears, posted a picture of his interception of Allar in last season’s Big Ten Championship Game.
The caption on the photo read: “Preciate chu” and tagged Allar’s Instagram account.
Manning’s interception ended up being a big play in deciding the Big Ten Championship.
He returned it to the 1-yard line, Oregon scored to push its lead to 28-10 and Penn State never recovered, losing 45-37.
No. 3 Penn State takes on No. 6 Oregon Saturday at Beaver Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 on NBC.
