College GameDay is coming back to Penn State for the team’s clash against Oregon Sept. 27.
This news had been assumed for weeks, if not months, but became official Saturday night.
The reason GameDay is coming back to Happy Valley is simple: Both Penn State and Oregon are really good.
Penn State is 3-0 and ranked No. 2 in the country, albeit without a test yet. Oregon is 4-0 and ranked No. 6, also without a test.
When Oregon completed its 41-7 demolition of rival Oregon State (0-4), it became all the more clear that this would be where GameDay was headed, and ESPN made the news official soon after.
Penn State is hoping for a better result than the one it got the last time GameDay came to town.
That was last November, when PSU hosted Ohio State and lost a heartbreaker 20-13.
This will be the 11th time GameDay has come to PSU overall and the 24th time GameDay has done a game involving Penn State.
It’s also unlikely to be the last time this year that Penn State is a part of College GameDay. The Nov. 1 clash against Ohio State in Columbus seems to be a good bet, since it could be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup.
But Penn State must worry about Oregon first.
That game is scheduled for 7:30 on NBC in White Out conditions at Beaver Stadium.
