Penn State has developed quality defensive backs in the James Franklin era, and Jahmir Joseph is hoping to be next in line.
Two springs ago, Joey Porter Jr. almost became the first Penn State DB to ever go in the first round.
Next spring, Joseph’s teammate, A.J. Harris, might be the one to accomplish that feat.
Players such as Johnny Dixon, Daequan Hardy and Jalen Kimber weren’t slouches, either.
Joseph played high school football in New Jersey, where Penn State has gotten some pretty good players before. The name Franco Harris might be recognizable to some.
We’ll see if Joseph has an immaculate career at Penn State.

Before Penn State: Joseph played high school football at, ironically enough, St. Joseph’s regional school in Somers Point, New Jersey. He was a first-team all-conference performer as a senior and ended that season with collected 29 tackles, four interceptions, 11 pass breakups and a blocked field goal. The year before that, Joseph had 43 tackles, three interceptions and four forced fumbles. He had the same amount of tackles as a sophomore and added three interceptions, one forced fumble and one touchdown.
Joseph even played as a freshman, ending that year with 23 tackles, two interceptions, eight pass breakups and five touchdowns.
A four-star recruit, Joseph committed to Penn State in June 2024.
Where he stands: Like most freshmen do, Joseph probably won’t get much, if any playing time right away. Penn State has Harris leading the way, along with winter workout hero Elliot Washington II, Audavion Collins and Daryus Dixson, a true freshman who many figure to be the star of the ‘25 Class.
Joseph can learn from the veterans and apply that to the practice field and the film room, if nothing else, in Year 1.
