Love Him, Hate Him: AJ Ferrari Commits to Nebraska Wrestling

AJ Ferrari, one of the most polarizing figures in wrestling, is going to Nebraska.

Ferrari, a former national champion that is just as well known for his antics as he is for his ability, announced on FloWrestling radio early Saturday afternoon that Lincoln is his next stop.

This sure makes life more interesting for Penn State wrestling fans.

Ferrari isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and that’s contributed to him having his share of beefs.

One of those beefs was with Penn State wrestling legend Carter Starocci, and that’s not something fans will soon forget.

Ferrari also has a controversial past that goes beyond words on Instagram.

Ferrari is a national champion, having won at 197 for Oklahoma State in 2021, the year Starocci won his first of four national titles at 174.

Amid a sexual assault investigation in the summer of 2022 (the case was eventually dismissed),  Ferrari left the Oklahoma State wrestling team and never wrestled again for John Smith and the Cowboys.

He wrestled unattached in December 2023 and his match went down in infamy.

From there, Ferrari picked up his career at Cal State Bakersfield, where he finished third at 197 in this year’s National Championships.

Ferrari re-entered the transfer portal and committed to the University of North Carolina.

The problem was, Carolina wouldn’t have him, and as a result, Ferrari had to look again.

That search led him to a Nebraska team that finished a distant second (60 points) behind Penn State at nationals.

The question now is where Ferrari will compete.

He could stay at 197, where Penn State has reigning national runner-up Josh Barr. He could move up to heavyweight, where Penn State will likely have Cole Mirasola succeeding former national champ Greg Kerkvliet.

Penn State also may or may not have Nebraska on the dual meet schedule, since that schedule isn’t out yet.

Love Ferrari or hate him, most will agree that he’s hard to beat and even harder to ignore.
