Penn State wrestling star Tyler Kasak is a Big Ten champion.
Kasak, seeded second, took care of Ohio State’s Brandon Cannon, who made a Cinderella run to the finals as a No. 8 seed.
It was a close bout for most of it, with Kasak clinging to a 4-2 lead about a minute into the third period.
But a takedown followed by a near fall and a riding time point gave Kasak a 12-2 major win.
This is the latest in what’s been a phenomenal sophomore season for Kasak thus far.
Of the 19 matches he’s wrestled in this year, Kasak has won 18. The only one he “lost” took place because of a medical default against Maryland’s Ethan Miller.
Next up are the national championships, scheduled for March 20-22 in Philadelphia.
After the win, Kasak was asked what we can expect from him at nationals.
“Gold,” he said.
