Another Penn State WR transfer portal target is off the board.
Late Friday night, a talented mid-major receiver named Reggie Virgil announced that he had committed to Texas Tech.

Per Penn State Rivals, Penn State was “expected to get Virgil on campus next week and were expected to be his last visit.”

Virgil ended 2024 with 816 yards and nine touchdowns on 41 catches. It was a coming out party for the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder. Over his first two seasons, he combined for 62 yards and a score on two receptions. He also helped Miami to the MAC Championship Game, where it lost to Ohio 38-3 Saturday, Dec. 7.

- 2022: Parker Washington (46 catches, 611 yards, two TD)
- 2023: KeAndre Lambert-Smith (53 catches, 673 yards, four TD)
- 2024 (so far): Harrison Wallace III (39 catches, 638 yards, four TD).
Penn State’s top pass-catcher this season is Tyler Warren (88 catches, 1,062 yards, six TD). But because Warren plays tight end, he’s not part of this conversation.
PSU’s receivers have made some strides this season. Three WRs have had games of 100+ yards this year, whereas last season, only Lambert-Smith— who now plays for Auburn— accomplished that feat. But considering Penn State’s second-leading receiver, Omari Evans has 360 yards and roughly a third of that came against a Kent State team that went 0-12, it’s probably fair to say there’s work to be done.

Penn State is getting a visit from one of the top receiver targets in the transfer portal. Eric Rivers, who picked up 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns on 62 receptions for Florida International this past season, is visiting Happy Valley Dec. 19-20. He would certainly help.
Penn State is scheduled to take on SMU for its first-ever College Football Playoff game Saturday, Dec. 21 at Beaver Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon on TNT and HBO Max.
