Portal Commitment: Penn State Lands SEC Transfer

Penn State football has landed its second commitment out of the transfer portal.

Friday, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound EDGE named Enai White announced his commitment to Penn State after previously playing at Texas A&M.ย

White, who came to A&M as a borderline five-star recruitโ€” the No. 38 overall player nationally in the Class of 2022 per 247Sportsโ€” hasnโ€™t had a dream college career thus far.

After getting 90 snaps (per Pro Football Focus) as a true freshman in 2022, an ACL injury limited him to 37 snaps in 2023 and carried over into 2024, where he played a total of nine snaps over two games.

But heโ€™s certainly talented.

WHAT WHITE SAID ABOUT PENN STATE

Penn State DL coach Deion Barnes has a lot of work to do, potentially in the transfer portal

White is a Philly guy who played his high school football at the prestigious Imhotep Charter.

This allowed him to develop a relationship with Penn State defensive line coach Deion Barnes, who trained prospects in Philadelphia before becoming a full-time coach at PSU.

“I knew coach Deion before he got the job at Penn State,” White told 247Sports after his official visit to PSU this weekend. “He used to train me. He grew up not too far from where I grew up.”

So what sticks out to White about Penn State schematically?

“The way they play their defensive ends (stood out),” he told 247. “They play vertical, up the field. That kind of fits the way I play the game. The belief that coach Deion had in me, I am in the transfer portal, I am coming off an injury, but he still believes in what I can do, so that plays a big role in what I have going on right now.”

STILL WORK TO BE DONE

James Franklin and Penn State would certainly be better off with Dani Dennis-Sutton than without him

Although White is a solid player to have in the fold, Penn State still has work to do at EDGE for 2025. Replacing a guy like Abdul Carterโ€” who has 10 sacks and leads the nation in tackles for lossโ€” wonโ€™t be easy, and barring something shocking, the projected-top 10 pick will go into the NFL Draft.

A bigger question is whether or not Dani Dennis-Sutton returns. The All-Bug Ten honorable mention is a 6-foot-5, 266-pound force with All-America potential. Right now, Dennis-Sutton projects as a mid-round draft pick. Will he test the waters or come back for one more run? Weโ€™ll find out soon enough.

Penn State is also losing a depth pieces in Amin Vanover and Smith Vilbert, who are out of eligibility. Zuriah Fisher has two seasons of eligibility left because of injury but has also been playing college football since 2020, so weโ€™ll see what he decides to do.

Penn State now has two transfer portal commitments, with USC transfer Kyron Hudson announcing his decision Monday night after visiting.

Penn State has its first-ever College Football Playoff game scheduled for noon at Beaver Stadium Saturday, Dec. 21. The game will be broadcast on TNT and HBO Max.
