Many people were concerned about Penn State following this past Saturday’s game at Bowling Green.
PSU won but didn’t look good doing it, winning by a touchdown in a game where it came in favored by nearly five.
Penn State may have suffered a monumental upset without its tight end.
It’s no hyperbole to say that Tyler Warren played one of the best games a Penn State tight end has ever played. His 146 yards were the most a PSU TE has ever had in a single game. This came as no surprise to coach James Franklin, who before the season called Freiermuth the “most complete tight end in the country,” nor did it surprise one of the best tight ends in Penn State history.
Pat Freiermuth never played with Tyler Warren but does have a relationship with him, and the current Steeler feels No. 44 does his job better than anybody else.
“I talk to him probably every week,” Freiermuth told Nittany Sports Now Tuesday evening, “once or twice a week. “He leans on me for advice. He’s a great tight end, and I definitely think he’s the best tight end in college football. I think just his game is going to translate really well to the NFL. He can do all aspects of what he’s being asked to do. So I for sure expect more things from him this year.”
For Franklin, who has coached tight ends such as Freiermuth, Mike Geskicki, Jesse James, Brenton Strange and Theo Johnson, who all have played in the NFL, Warren does everything well.
“I think he’s the most complete tight end in the country in terms of he truly is a weapon in the run game as a blocker, he truly is a weapon on third down in the passing game,” Franklin said after a Wednesday practice in August.
