Transfer Portal: Former Penn State QB Returning to Power 4

A former Penn State quarterback who has twice entered the transfer portal is making his return to the Power Four.

After three seasons at PSU and two more at UConn, Ta’Quan Roberson announced late Wednesday morning that he’ll be transferring to Kansas State.

After a successful career at DePaul Catholic in Wayne, New Jersey, in which he led the team to a state championship, Robinson came to Penn State as a true freshman in 2019.

After two seasons playing behind starter Sean Clifford and backup Will Levis– both of whom are now in the NFL– Roberson got his first big shot on a late October afternoon in Iowa City.

Unfortunately for Roberson, it didn’t go well. That performance is the thing most Penn State fans remember him for. He went 7-21 for 34 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Penn State also had eight false starts playing in front of the Kinnick Stadium crowd.

By the end of the season, Christian Veilleux was Clifford’s backup. The writing was on the wall for Roberson’s time at Penn State.

From there, he entered the transfer portal and left Penn State for UConn. He became the starter ahead of the 2022 season.

Unfortunately, Roberson’s 2022 campaign amounted to less than a quarter. He tore his ACL in the team’s season opener at Utah State.

Roberson finally got a chance to be a starting QB for a full season in 2023.

He ended the season with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions, completing more than 58% of his passes and throwing for more than 2,000 yards.

Kansas State will be looking to replace Will Howard, who transferred to Ohio State over the winter, at starting QB. The current K-State QB room is headlined by Pop-Tarts Bowl MVP Avery Johnson.
