Prominent National Analyst Ranks Penn State 2nd in Game Day Atmosphere

Penn State will take on Minnesota Nov. 22 at 3:30 on CBS.
Beaver Stadium -- David Hague

It’s no secret that Penn State possess one of the most electric game day atmospheres in college football.

The program has been an established national power for more than 50 years, and for the past 20, Beaver Stadium has been widely regarded as one of America’s best environments.

It was marketing guru Guido D’Elia who came up with the White Out, which started in 2004 when Penn State’s student section was asked to wear white for a game against Purdue

Three seasons later, the whole stadium was asked to where white against Notre Dame, and since than, the White Out has been the signature event of Penn State’s home schedule.

But the White Out isn’t the only date where Beaver Stadium rocks, and a prominent national college football analyst rated Penn State’s environment ahead of every other in the country aside from one. Joel Klatt, a color commentator best known for his work on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff alongside Play by Play man Gus Johnson, has Penn State’s gameday experience ranked second behind LSU’s “Death Valley.”

Rounding out the top five are Alabama, Oregon and Clemson, another “Death Valley.

Penn State and Oregon, which is joining the Big Ten this year along with fellow former PAC 12 schools USC, UCLA and Washington, are the only two Big Ten schools to crack the top five.

Michigan and Ohio State, who, like Penn State, each have stadiums that seat more than 100,000, are notable omissions from Klatt’s top five.

Penn State will go to Oregon for the first time since the latter joined the Big Ten in 2025 at a time and date to be determined.
