Penn State Making ‘Tier 1’ Money off College Football ‘25

Head coach James Franklin.

Fans have been waiting more than a decade for a new college football video game, and the latest one will have obvious benefits to Penn State.

For one, this will be the first college game to feature player names, so Drew Allar won’t be “QB No. 14” or Nicholas Singleton “RB No. 10” as had been the case in the previous era of NCAA Football.

Another benefit is Penn State making nearly $100,000.

Per CllctMedia, all 134 FBS programs will be making a certain amount of money from the video game, with how much they make dependent on which one of the four “tiers” they fall into.

Penn State’s one of 13 that falls into “tier one”, which will net the school $99,875.16.

The tiers are determined by final AP Poll rankings in the past decade. Over the past 10 seasons, Penn State has finished in the top 10 four times, the top 15 five and the top 20 six.

Other Big Ten programs in the top tier are Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Oregon.

Oregon did all of its damage over the past decade in the now-defunct PAC 12 but will be playing in the Big Ten starting this season.

The rest of tier one consists of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Utah. So the Big Ten has the most schools with five, the SEC four, the Big 12 two, ACC one and independent (Notre Dame) one.

The Big Ten is also present in the bottom tier. Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska, Purdue and Rutgers are all in tier four with a combined total of zero AP top 25 finishes in the past decade.
