Top-Ranked 2024 Tight End Landen Thomas Picks Up Penn State Offer

2024 four-star tight end Landen Thomas is only a sophomore in high school, but he’s already receiving interest from nearly every major college in the country — and for good reason.

Penn State was the latest offer for Thomas (6-foot-4, 210 pounds), the 12th official he’s received after a strong debut for Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia as a freshman last season, finally breaking out this season. He’s also picked up offers from Florida State, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Western Kentucky, Arkansas, Georgia and LSU.

Thomas had committed to Florida State earlier this year, but after an unofficial visit to Georgia this month, he de-committed from the Seminoles and reopened his recruiting process. Only a sophomore this season, Thomas’s recruiting chase will likely feature many, many more teams before it’s decided.

As a freshman for Colquitt County last season, Thomas caught eight passes for 97 yards and a touchdown in the slot for a Packers squad that advanced to the Elite Eight in the Georgia Class 7-A playoffs.

Following a strong debut varsity season, Thomas has blown all expectations out of the water so far. In six games, he’s caught 13 passes for 239 yards and five touchdowns, averaging just over 18 yards per reception.

A big-bodied receiving threat with excellent speed and strength for his size, the sky is the limit for Thomas’s potential. He’s young enough to be able to spend the next two and a half years perfecting his game before making the jump to the next level.

According to 247Sports, Thomas is rated as the 18th-ranked recruit in the class of 2024, coming in as the top-ranked tight end and the fifth-ranked recruit from Georgia. Rivals has not yet ranked Thomas yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

Having already committed and de-committed from FSU this year, Thomas likely won’t commit to his final decision for some time. Neither 247Sports nor Rivals has a projection for where he’ll land next, but Georgia figures to be an early contender.
