The top college football recruiting class in the country could be adding a new member in the very near future.
2022 3-star wide receiver Omari Evans (Killeen, Texas) plans on announcing his college decision this Saturday and Penn State is in the running. The talented wideout previously announced a Top seven of Penn State, Indiana, Arkansas, Houston, Baylor, Rutgers and Vanderbilt but is now just focusing on Penn State, Rutgers, Baylor and Houston.
Rutgers has been considered the favorite, however, Evans made an official visit to Penn State for the White Out game against Auburn, which made a big impression on him.
Evans also made an unofficial visit to State College during June, which is when he received the offer from James Franklin and wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield. The thing that earned Evans the offer was his blazing speed, as he ran a 4.3 40-yard dash for Franklin during a private workout.
Prior to the primetime game against Auburn, Evans took a tour of the Penn State campus, which was the first time he had done so. Then during game-time, he was impressed with the atmosphere both inside and outside Beaver Stadium.
Penn State currently has commitments from four wide receivers in this class but they believe Evans is different than the others and could have a role similar to former Nittany Lions star KJ Hamler. The four other wide receiver commitments are Kaden Saunders (Westerville, Ohio), Anthony Ivey (Lancaster, Pennsylvania), Mehki Flowers (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) and Tyler Johnson (Ridgeway, Virginia).
Nittany Sports Now believes that Evans is now a heavy Penn State lean.
