UPDATE: 1:30 p.m.
It’s now official on 247Sports:
ORIGINAL STORY
Penn State now has the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, according to the Rivals formula. And the Lions appear to be poised to take over the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports rankings, as well.
PSU obviously has an outstanding class, and these latest developments in the national rankings have come about because of a pair of recruiting moves involving Ohio State.
First, here are the Rivals rankings, as of Monday afternoon:
The Nittany Lions have 24 commits, giving them 2,321 points. Ohio State, which has been No. 1 in the rankings for some time, has dropped to No. 2 after 5-star cornerback Jaheim Singletary decommitted Sunday.
Here are the 247Sports rankings, as of this afternoon:
Penn State was just barely behind the Buckeyes in the rankings. However, 5-star quarterback Quinn Ewers is reclassifying from the class of 2022 to the class of 2021 and plans to play this season for Ohio State.
Once Ewers is removed from Ohio State’s class of 2022 numbers, Penn State almost certainly will jump up into the top spot — for now at least.
The Lions won’t be able to add much more to their class of 2022 haul, while other top schools on the list — including Ohio State and Alabama — still will have a bunch more commits forthcoming.
Still, Penn State is atop the rankings right now, which is a nice place to be entering the first week of preseason camp.
