Kyle Dake, who didn’t wrestle for Penn State but is apart of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, is the odds on favorite to win Olympic Gold at 74 KG.
He showed why Friday morning.
Dake followed up an 10-0 technical superiority over Venenzula’s Montero Chirinos that took less than a minute and a half with an 11-1 fall over Iran’s Yones Emamichoghaei.
Dake controlled the first three minutes, taking a 5-1 lead into the second three.
Nothing changed in the second three minutes.
Dake got a four-point takedown to go ahead 9-1, and ended it with a fall that took place with 23 seconds left.
This puts Dake in the semifinals, which are slated to begin around 12:15 eastern time. The four-time World Champ, five-time world medalist and 2020 Olympic Bronze Medalist is now two wins away from his first Gold Medal.
