Penn State has its first commitment of this transfer portal cycle.
It’s Alan Herron, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive tackle from Division II Shorter.
Herron announced his plans to enter the portal toward the end of November, before it officially opened Dec. 4.
In the meantime, Herron also received offers from schools such as Auburn, Clemson, Miami, Syracuse and Texas Tech. But Herron decided to pick Penn State and announced the decision via Instagram early Monday afternoon.
“We found home!” Herron wrote.
247Sports rated Herron as the No. 6 offensive tackle in the portal. He spent most of his time at Shorter playing on the right side.
Penn State’s regular right tackle for the past four seasons has been Caedan Wallace, and Wallace has the option to return next season for what would be Year 6. Penn State also has Drew Shelton set to be back in the fold, who will be going into his third year and started the last five games at left tackle as a true freshman in 2022 after Olu Fashanu went down with an injury. Fashanu, who was named a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection and the conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Year and was recently named a first-team All-American, shocked the world by coming back to Penn State this season when he was a projected first-round pick in this past draft.
Fashanu has eligibility left, but him coming back again would be beyond shocking. He’s now projected by many to be a top three draft choice.
Herron has two seasons of eligibility remaining. We’ll now see if Penn State adds any additional linemen out of the portal.
