A Penn State ‘25 target will be announcing his decision Christmas Day.

Tariq Hayer is a four-star, 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back from D.C.‘s St. John’s high school.

Penn State’s in his top five along with Cincinnati, Maryland, Notre Dame and Wisconsin, per Brian Dohn of 247Sports.

PSU offered him in April 2022 after his freshman season. This season, Hayer visited Penn State for its game against Michigan at Beaver Stadium Nov. 11.

Along with his top five, Hayer has offers from schools such as Boston College, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Pitt, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Hayer is a speedster. During his sophomore year, he finished seventh in the 100-meter dash and ninth in the 200-meter at the district championships, per Andrew Ivins of 247Sports. Additionally, he was on two relay teams— 4×100 and 4×200– that went to the New Balance Nationals this past June.

His times, per Ivins, are 6.67 in the 55, 7.13 in the 60, 11.17 in the 100, 22.70 in the 200 and 37.69 in the 300.

247Sports doesn’t currently have any projections for Hayer. For whatever it’s worth, 247 lists Hayer’s interest levels for Maryland, Penn State and Wisconsin as “warm,” but “cool” for Cincinnati and Notre Dame. He’s the No. 2 player in D.C.— behind another Penn State target, four-star Gonzaga safety Kainoa Winston— as well as the No. 18 CB and No. 125 overall player nationally.

Penn State currently has six players committed in its 2025 Class. The 25 ‘24 commits are slated to sign next Wednesday, Dec. 20. While all of this is going on, coach James Franklin and his staff have to prepare for the Peach Bowl against Ole Miss, scheduled for Dec. 30 at noon in Atlanta.
