Penn State basketball is now on its first losing streak of the Mike Rhoades era.
The team lost to No. 12 Texas A&M on Thanksgiving Day in the first game of the ESPN Events Invitational and followed that up with an 88-78 loss to Butler on Black Friday.
Penn State and Butler played each other tightly in the first half, with Butler leading 42-39 at the break.
But Butler ultimately proved to be too much. Penn State got an excellent effort from Kanye Clary, who continued his fantastic sophomore season with a 28-point effort. Clary’s backcourt mate, Ace Baldwin, added 15 points, and Nick Kern (12 points) and Zach Hicks (11 points) also cracked double figures. For Butler, Pierre Brooks led the scoring with 26 points. Jahmyl Telfort (18 points) and DJ Davis (14) also cracked double figures.
Penn State will now play the loser of VCU-Bosie State Sunday morning at 10:30.
