Penn State is in the running along with Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami and Ole Miss. Thompson (6-foot-3, 275 pounds) is the No. 34 player in Georgia, the No. 25 defensive lineman, and the No. 240 player nationally, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Champ’s father Michael, played offensive tackle for the Atlanta Falcons from 2000-02 where he was a fourth round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. He went to Tennessee State University from 1995-99.
Champ Thompson led the Mustangs to a 7-4 record and a playoff appearance where they lost to the eventual 7A state champion Mill Creek.
Thompson primarily plays strongside defensive end for Meadowcreek, but he is also capable of playing the three-technique at the college level. Thompson can play all over the defensive line and his combination of size and speed to get the best matchup possible. He does an excellent job creating pressure on pass plays. He can pull rush in the A-gap when playing the three-technique.

Penn State has only one commit in its 2024 recruiting class, who is Cooper Cousins, an offensive lineman from McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania.
