Penn State basketball target Amani Hansberry, a Class of 2023 four-star recruit out of Baltimore, Maryland, has announced that he will be making his commitment on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time on 247Sports.com’s YouTube channel.
Penn State is in Hansberry’s top five choice of schools, along with Auburn, Illinois, Miami, and Virginia Tech. Hansberry is the top recruit in Maryland, the number ten power forward, and the No. 52 player nationally, according to 247Sports.
The 6-foot-8, 225-pound Hansberry plays prep for Mount State Joeseph in Washington, DC, and also plays AAU basketball for Team Durant.
Hansberry’s stock took a huge jump last month playing in Nike’s Elite Level Youth League Peach Jam when he helped lead Team Durant to a 5-2 record and helped them get to the Final Four of the tournaments. He averaged 16.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in league play. Hansberry was selected to the Peach Jam first team.
Scouts are impressed by Hansberry’s hands and footwork. They also like his ability to consistently knock down jump shots in the mid-range, as well as his post game around the basket. Hansberry is a strong rebounder who also plays smart on the defensive end of the floor. Scouts believe he would be an ideal small-ball five at the major college level.
If Penn State were to land Hansberry, he would join guards Logan Imes and Braeden Shrewsberry in their 2023 recruiting cycle.
