A Penn State defensive player has been recognized for his performance in Saturday night’s win over Auburn.

The Big 10 Conference has named junior linebacker Brandon Smith as the Defensive Player of the Week. Smith led the team with a career-high 10 tackles, which bested his previous high of eight, and also recorded one tackle for loss, one pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.

Smith and his teammates on defense limited an explosive Auburn passing attack to just 185 yards and 369 total yards, which was their lost output of the season.

This was the first time in Smith’s career that he won the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Week award and the first Nittany Lion player to do so since Robert Windsor back on November 12, 2018.

No. 6 Penn State is back at home this Saturday when they host Villanova. Kickoff from Beaver Stadium is set for Noon.
