This afternoon, most of Nittany Nation probably felt that today’s contest against the No. 9 ranked Michigan State Spartans was going to be a blowout, especially after Penn State’s disappointing loss earlier this week against Indiana where they loss 113-72. But just like after Penn State’s first loss of the season against Providence, the Blue & White showed their resiliency and toughness and stormed back and played with a chip on their shoulder in front of the raucous crowd inside the Bryce Jordan Center. Even though the Nittany Lions came up short today losing the contest, 76-72, there were a lot of positives to take from today’s action as they almost shocked the college basketball world.
No one was more impressed with this young Nittany Lion squad than the head coach of the Michigan State Spartans, Tom Izzo. Also, there is probably no better expert in the game of basketball to analyze another team’s coach and its players than Hall of Fame coach, Tom Izzo. The leader of the Spartans won a national championship in 2000 and he currently holds the NCAA record for the most consecutive NCAA Tournament berths at (27). Izzo has also won 11, Big Ten Tournament titles and has made it to eight Final Fours.
Coach Izzo started out the press conference saying, “You have a really good coach and you have some really good, young players.” He spoke very highly of PSU head coach Mike Rhoades and said how he hopes this young Nittany Lion squad sticks together.
