The hottest line in college hockey can now boast Big Ten Hockey’s First Star of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks.
Junior forward Matt DiMarsico (Wexford, Pa.) was named the Big Ten Hockey First Star of the Week following a dominant three-goal, six-point performance in Penn State’s weekend sweep of Long Island University.
This marks DiMarsico’s second career weekly accolade and his first since November of his freshman season. He becomes the third straight Nittany Lion to earn the conference’s top weekly honor, joining linemates Charlie Cerrato (Oct. 7) and JJ Wiebusch (Oct. 14), who claimed the award in the first two weeks of the season.
DiMarsico led the Big Ten and ranked second nationally with six points over the weekend. He recorded his second hat trick of the season in Friday’s 5–4 overtime victory, then assisted on all three goals — including the primary on two goals — in Saturday’s 3–0 shutout win.
With the performance, DiMarsico became the first Nittany Lion in program history to record multiple hat tricks in a single season. He joins Wiebusch and classmate Aiden Fink as the only Penn State players ever to post multiple games with three or more goals.
The DiMarsico–Cerrato–Wiebusch line has been nearly unstoppable, combining for 17 goals and 21 assists (38 points) through just six games — an average of 2.83 goals and 4.67 points per game.
The No. 5 Nittany Lions will close their six-game homestand this weekend with a two-game series against Stonehill at Pegula Ice Arena.
