In 1950, the AP started its annual Preseason Poll with 11 preseason No. 1 finishing the season ranked by the AP No. 1 last being done by 2017 Alabama.
The only two teams ever to go wire-to-wire in the AP Poll No. 1 were the 1999 Florida State Seminoles and the 2004 USC Trojans.
