Bryson DeChambeau was late to Saturday’s Penn State-SMU College Football Playoff Game and maybe that was for the best.
DeChambeau, who went to SMU before becoming a two-time U.S. Open champion, wanted to be there for his Alma Mater’s first college football playoff games.
By the time he got there— which was after the first quarter— SMU QB Kevin Jennings had thrown two interceptions returned for touchdowns, and Penn State had a two score lead that would only ballon from there.
Here’s why DeChambeau was late, per Ross Dellinger of Yahoo! Sports.
”Several jets carrying SMU donors were diverted from the State College airport to Williamsport. They’re in a shuttle (party bus!) en route to the game & will arrive an hour after kick. Photo by donor Bill Armstrong (bottom left). There’s Craig James on right, drink cup raised.”
While it’s hard to say exactly when DeChambeau arrived, the ball kicked off at 12:10. Penn State led 14-0 by 1. Penn State led 21-0 by the time there were five minutes left in the second quarter, so if DeChambeau and company were delayed further, it would have been even worse by the time they got in.
