Michigan is now the favorite to land one of Penn State football’s Class of 2025 recruiting targets.
It’s Bradley Gompers, a four-star LB from Pittsburgh Central Catholic.
Steve Wiltfong of On3Sports projects that Gompers will flip from Duke— where he’s been committed since June— to Michigan.

This is significant for a few reasons. For one, some of Gompers’ former teammates are either on Penn State’s roster or committed to Penn State. Anthony Speca and Peter Gonzalez each signed with Penn State last December. Xxavier Thomas is committed to Penn State and is set to sign in last than two weeks. There’s also another factor that makes this interesting.
MANNY DIAZ

Duke’s current head coach used to be Penn State’s defensive coordinator. Manny Diaz left PSU for Durham last winter, and six months later, Gompers committed. Penn State offered Gompers in September and he visited the team’s 27-11 win over UCLA in October, making fans wonder if James Franklin would steal a commit from his former co-worker. Although it has happened before— Cameron Smith, a four-star LB from Philadelphia, flipped from Duke to Penn State in August— it appears unlikely that lightning will strike twice. Losing out on a player like Gompers would hurt, and him going to a rival would deepen the wound.
IN OTHER NEWS…
Michigan has already had a pretty darn good week in recruiting. The school got Bryce Underwood— a QB who is the No. 1 overall player in the Class of 2025– to flip his commitment from LSU. Penn State doesn’t play Michigan again until 2026, at which point Underwood will be the starter if he’s anywhere close to as good as what he projects to be. If projections are accurate, Gompers will be in Ann Arbor as well, which would sting for Penn State recruiting
The early signing period starts Dec. 4 and ends Dec. 6.
