Penn State Overcomes Slow Start, Pounds UCLA 27-11

No. 7 Penn State started slow but eventually took care of  four-touchdown underdog UCLA with a 27-11 win.

Penn State is now 5-0 overall and UCLA has dropped to 1-4 in its first season in the Big Ten, with all four losses being by double digits.

The game also featured some history.

Penn State TE Tyler Warren’s four-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter against UCLA looked ordinary on the surface.

But it made history.

With a four-yard touchdown reception, Warren is now Penn State’s all-time leader in total touchdowns by a tight end with 17, breaking Pat Freiermuth’s record.

The game was scoreless after the first quarter with UCLA out gaining Penn State 72-28.

Penn State got the scoring started with 6:28 left in the second quarter, when QB Drew Allar capped a 16-play, 80-yard drive 1-yard QB sneak.

UCLA got a field goal on the ensuing possession to make it 7-3.

But Penn State answered again with an eight play, 75-yard drive capped off with a 5-yard TD pass from Allar to Tyler Warren. The 14-3 lead held into the second half.

Penn State added on in the third quarter on a 25-yard field goal by Ryan Barker, who was making his first start in place of Sander Sahaydak, who started the first four games.

A 1-yard run by Kaytorn Allen with 2:57 left in the third quarter virtually put the game to bed.

Penn State has a much tougher text next week.

Instead of an LA team coming to Beaver Stadium, Penn State will be going out there Thursday to play USC Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 EST.
