Former Penn State QB Enters Transfer Portal

One of Penn State football’s former QBs is in the transfer portal for the second time.

Christian Veilleux started his college football career at Penn State in 2021 and stayed there through the 2022 season.

After that, with Drew Allar the clear front-runner to succeed longtime starter Sean Clifford in 2023, Veilleux hit the transfer portal but stayed in Pennsylvania, joining a Penn State rival.

He ended up going to Pitt, where he started five games of the team’s 12 games. Now, he’s going back to the portal, announcing his decision Tuesday, the day it opened. Veilleux’s time at Pitt had some highlights, most notably him leading the team to an upset win over eventual ACC runner-up Louisville in October. But his overall numbers— eight interceptions to seven touchdown passes, a QBR of 40.1 and a 1-4 record as starter— left plenty to be desired.

With Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi already making clear his intention to start Nate Yarnell— who replaced Veilleux with two games left in the regular season— it made sense for Veilleux to move on, and it appears he’s doing so.

In a brief statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), Veilleux thanked Narduzzi, new offensive coordinator Kade Bell and the program.

“I hate a great time here in Pittsburgh,” he wrote. “I will be entering the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility.”

As a true freshman at Penn State in 2021, Veilleux played in two games and completed 16-of-26 passes for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns. Most of those numbers  came in a start against Rutgers. Before the 2022 season, Veilleux was surpassed on the depth chart by Drew Allar and appeared in only three games, completing 7-of-9 passes for 44 yards.
