Former Penn State defensive line coach Sean Spencer wont be out of a job for long.
Less than a week after being fired by Florida, where he was the DL and co-DC coach for two seasons, Spencer will be hired as Texas A&M’s new DL coach, according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Spencer was on Penn State’s from 2014-19, spending all six seasons as the defensive line coach and the last two as an associate head coach.
Before coming to Penn State, Spencer worked on James Franklin’s staff at Vanderbilt for all three of his seasons there (2011-13).
After the 2019 season, Spencer left Penn State for the NFL, where he spent two seasons with the Giants. Spencer left the NFL after the 2021 campaign to return to the college ranks.
Under Spencer, Penn State posted four-straight 40-sack seasons (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), the first time the program accomplished that feat since the NCAA started tracking stats in 1998.
The 2018 Penn State team lead the nation in sacks (3.62) and ranked fourth in tackles for loss (8.2). Starring on that 2018 DL were Yetur Gross-Matos (first-team All Big Ten), Shareef Miller (third-team) and Robert Windsor (honorable mention).
Spencer’s unit also played a big role in Penn State’s most recent Big Ten championship. That season, Penn State finished seventh in the country in tackles for loss (8.1) and 19th in sacks (2.86).
Individually, DE’s Garrett Sickles and Evan Schwan each made All-Big Ten.
Ironically, Spencer’s succeeding PSU grad Elijah Robinson as Texas A&M’s DL coach. Robinson, known to many as a recruiting ace, is going to be the next defensive coordinator at Syracuse. Robinson will be working with new A&M coach Mike Elko.
