The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Bonsu has 19 Power Five offers and is the No. 4 recruit in New Jersey, the No. 22 safety and No. 259 player in the nation, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Bonsu started all 12 games as a junior, recording 62 tackles (7.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles for St. Peters Preparatory High School, who went 8-4 and advanced to the semifinals of the New Jersey Non-Public Class A football playoffs.
Scouts have said that Bonsu is a physical defender in the secondary with striking power.
Scouts also see his high football I.Q. that allows coaches to use his versatility to play in the box, play deep center field in coverage, or play in the slot. He is a sure tackler who wraps up and uses solid technique to get ball carriers to the ground on contact.
If Bonsu commits he’d join Lamont Payne, Conrad Hussey, King Mack, Elliot Washington and DaKaari Nelson as defensive back commits in Penn State’s 2023 class.
