One of the top former Penn State players in the NFL is on the movie.
For a long time, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fans— many of which are the same people— wondered if Joey Porter Jr would ever play another game for the Steelers.
Well, we now know the answer.
The Steelers’ seemingly never-ending saga with Porter is over.
Late Wednesday night, general manager Omar Khan shipped the budding young cornerback to the Dallas Cowboys for a package that includes a second-round pick, per NFL insider Ari Meirov.
Porter had been full-go during the Steelers’ first two practices this week before dropping down to being a limited participant on Wednesday, then being ruled out for the team’s game on the road against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
Porter didn’t play in a game for the Steelers this season after waiting on a new contract that never came during the offseason. Meanwhile, he watched Cleveland’s Denzel Ward, Seattle’s Devon Witherspoon and New England’s Christian Gonzalez reset the market.
This is the third time over the past two years that Khan has done business with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, having shipped mercurial receiver George Pickens and former first-round draft pick Broderick Jones to America’s team.
The Steelers will no longer have to deal with the distraction that Porter caused over the past few months, while it’ll be interesting to see if Porter’s on-and-off back injury heals now that he’s shed the black and gold colors.
Porter was an All-American and first-team All-Big Ten player in 2022, recording 27 tackles, 11 pass breakups, a quarterback hurry, and a fumble recovery in Penn State’s win over Purdue on opening night. Now, he’s the first Penn State defensive back in school history to go in the first round.
