UNIVERSITY PARK– It’s been a busy weekend for Penn State football coach Matt Campbell.
On Friday night, he addressed the Penn State wrestling crowd during the team’s dual meet win over Nebraska.
About 14 hours later, Campbell dropped the puck for the first men’s hockey game in Beaver Stadium history between No. 5 Penn State and No. 2 Michigan State.
Campbell is in a position not many have been in over the past 76 years.
Only four other men— Rip Engle (1950-65), Joe Paterno (1966-2011), Bill O’Brien (2012-13) and James Franklin (2014-25)— have taken over the Penn State program on a full-time basis.
Campbell is also the first coach to take over the program during the transfer portal era, and next year’s Penn State team will look quite different.
We’ll hear more from Campbell Wednesday, when he addresses media for the second time since taking the job.
