If you are looking for a good appetizer to Saturday’s Penn State football game against UCLA at the Rose Bowl, the men’s hockey team will be providing the dish on Friday night.

Gavin McKenna, who is arguably the most distinguished freshman ever in the history of Penn State athletics, will have his debut broadcast live on the NHL Network on Friday night.

The National Hockey League (NHL) announced a broadcast partnership with the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, the conference that is home to Arizona State University, Penn State’s first opponent.

The game will be available via streaming on the NHL YouTube.

The Top 15 clash between the fifth ranked Nittany Lions and No. 15 Sun Devils are opening their 2025-26 season with a  two-game series from the Mullett Arena on Friday October 3 at 10 PM and Saturday October 4 at 8 PM (both Eastern).

Friday’s broadcast will feature Tyler Paley on play-by-play and Alex Coli as the color analyst.
