James Franklin is attempting to restore the future depth at “Linebacker U.” Franklin’s efforts were advanced with the announcement of Class of 2026 four-star linebacker Cincere Johnson of Glenville in Cleveland, Ohio naming Penn State amongst his final three.
Joining Penn State seeking Johnson’s services are Ohio State and Alabama.
โWhen I was younger, these three schools were my dream schools growing up,โ Johnson told On3. โWatching Reuben Foster at Alabama. Coach (Dan) Connor the linebackers coach played at Penn State. Watching Ohio State and Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. and (James) Laurinaitis. To be in this position one day is a blessing.โ
Johnson’s official visit schedule to these schools over the next month will be visiting Penn State on May 16, Alabama on May 30, and finishing with in-state favorite Ohio State on June 13.
Johnson was recruited partially by former Ohio State defensive coordinator and current Penn State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles but Ohio State linebacker coach James Laurinaitis.
Many recruiting analysts feel Johnson is amongst the best inside backers that could develop ย into one of the premier edge rushers at the college level.
During his junior season, Johnson was named Ohio Division IV Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Ohio First-Team Defense. Many outlets have Johnson rated near the top amongst Ohio prospects.
It is worth noting many recruiting crystal ball predictions have Ohio State landing Johnson’s services but time will tell how Knowles and linebacker coach Dan Connor can make up ground on the Buckeyes.
